This week, we host The Scarlet Goodbye, a creative collaboration between two established Minnesota musicians, Daniel Murphy and Jeff Arundel. Their partnership began by chance, with Murphy — known for his foundational roles in Soul Asylum and Golden Smog—crossing paths with the accomplished singer-songwriter-producer Arundel. This meeting sparked a new musical journey in an attic studio in St. Paul, Minnesota, where the duo began matching musical wits and blending these distinct perspectives.

Billy has been described as commitment-free rock and roll. While he’s been moonlighting with George Scott McKelvey in the B-Team, former Hillcats singer, Billy Johnson, confirms he belongs on the A list as one of the Twin Cities’ best feel-good, blue-collar barroom-rousing tunesmiths with his first solo album, tellingly titled, “It’s a Good Life.”
